One of our most beloved bridal designers, Wendy Makin has spent three decades bringing wedding dreams to life across Australia and the world. Celebrating the clean, minimalistic appeal of Mikado silk through to the tactile beauty of lace, a WM gown will always be treasured for its sumptuous fabrics and elegant wearability. This Brisbane-based, multi-award-winning designer isn’t afraid to tuck a secret pocket into the most showstopping ballgown. Love that!
Wendy’s name has become synonymous with the quality and timeless appeal of her designs, giving brides the choice of RTW (Ready to Wear) gowns or a couture creation. And the romantic twist? french collection by Wendy Makin: a collection fusing modern elements with classic styling. Crafted in exquisite laces, floaty tulles, ornate beading and luxe crepes, it’s perfect for the contemporary bride and a favourite for destination weddings.

Bows are back!! On a shoulder, finishing off a low back, on the bust … Also, off-the-shoulder necklines, detachable puff sleeves and trains, and boned bodices are continuing to be a big influence. We’re also seeing a resurgence in 3D lace.
Q: TOP TIPS WHEN DECIDING BETWEEN COUTURE & RTW?
Couture is made to your measurements, so it will always fit better. RTW is less expensive, but remember to factor in any alteration costs.
Q: YOU ARE ALWAYS INSPIRED BY …
My brides, always.
Q: WHAT’S ON THE WM PLAYLIST?
As I write this, Disco Classics (don’t judge me) but generally in my studio, it’s Luxury Lounge, Disco Del Sol.
