QB says huge congratulations to The Joinery which is celebrating its first year as Brisbane’s coolest industry-style wedding venue. It’s been a joyous year of many triumphs, and here, owners and sisters, Penny Culpo and Maria Nicolaou share their favourite memories from the past 12 months of hosting memorable weddings and watching their space transform into entirely different and equally spectacular incarnations week after week.

EMMA & GUY’S WEDDING RECEPTION
Stunningly romantic with a touch of old world elegance is how we’d describe Emma and Guy’s wedding reception.
When it came to the styling, highlights included black Tiffany Chairs from Styled Events and a breath-taking hanging floral chandelier, designed by Kate Dawes Flower Design with cut glass bulbs by AVIdeas, atop a central square bridal table, finished with crystal cut glassware.
They also chose to position the bridal table in the middle of the room, creating a beautiful warmth and intimacy that set the tone for the whole evening.
KATHRYN & MATT’S CEREMONY & WEDDING RECEPTION
Kathryn and Matt wanted a contemporary but intimate venue with a central location to hold both their wedding ceremony and reception and The Joinery ticked all the boxes.
The pared back styling featured a raw, organic colour palette and a touch of elegance, which was the perfect complement to the venue’s timber textures and neutral palette.
After the sweet ceremony, the newlyweds and their guests grazed from a sprawling cheese station which was transformed into a decadent dessert station later in the night.
For Penny and Maria, the highlight of the day was watching as the bride and groom emerge following the ceremony atop the main space on the second-floor landing to Elton John’s ‘Circle of Life’.
HANNAH & DREW CEREMONY & WEDDING RECEPTION
Opting for something a little bit different, Hannah and Drew chose The Joinery to host their very modern, slightly quirky, wedding celebration.
The couple decided to do away with tradition in favour of an edgy, rock star vibe, complete with slinky, black sequined bridalwear, oversized black balloons by DD Brand and a ‘hell yeah’ neon sign by Neon Poodle as their ceremony backdrop.
Equal parts formality and fun, Penny and Maria enjoyed watching this unique wedding come together and carried the relaxed feel and quirky touches through to the event’s menu.
