We wholeheartedly admit that the bubbly Tamara is our favourite MasterChef contestant this season… but we’re a little biased. The fun-loving, super-cute babe actually shared her wedding with Queensland Brides in our Spring 2016 issue, back before she dyed her hair platinum blonde. To celebrate her re-entering into the competition (thank heavens, we need to see more food-themed earrings!), we thought we’d show off her gorgeous Sunshine Coast Hinterland nuptials again, and they’re as colourful and beautiful as you’d imagine…
The team at QB have seen their fair share of weddings but we still pore over every single one admiring the intricate details that make every bride’s special day unique. Whether it’s a breathtaking venue, quirky theme or heartfelt photography that captures our attention, we all agree that it’s often the combination of small, painstakingly planned details that create the biggest impact. Bright and beautiful, the wedding of Tamara and Tim at award-winning Maleny Manor combines all of these things, making it one of those wish-we-were-there celebrations.
Local government might not exactly scream modern-day romance, but it was while working at the same council office that Tim and Tamara – or Tim Tam if you will – met.“Rumours spread quickly through the office when we first started dating and I would often turn up to work and have Tim Tam wrappers taped to my computer screen as a joke from my colleagues,” laughs Tamara. Fast-forward seven years and Tim surprised his gorgeous girlfriend with a romantic getaway to Magnetic Island and an equally romantic proposal. When he suggested a hike on the picturesque Forts Walk, Tamara–a little daunted by the thought of a hike – reluctantly agreed.“I figured there must be something amazing at the top… and there was,” she says.“He pulled a beautiful ring out of a handmade wooden box with ‘marry me’ carved into the top and a bottle of Champagne out of his backpack!”
For self-confessed DIY fanatic Tamara, her special day was a chance to unleash her creativity and personality – the results would make Martha Stewart jealous.“I stopped stressing about making the wedding fit into any one theme and just incorporated all of the things that I loved and that made me smile,” says Tamara. “There was a big focus on colour and bold details, as well as the incorporation of bespoke handmade decorations.” A few days before the wedding, with a letterpress and hot glue gun in hand, Tamara and her trusty bridesmaids set up a production line, rolling out more than 500 tissue paper tassels to decorate the ceremony and reception venue.“I used tissue paper tassels to fill the pavilion and reception with colour, combined with fresh flowers elsewhere in the headpieces, bouquets, aisle jars and reception to achieve a similar effect.”
Designing, dyeing, sewing and spray painting whatever she could get her hands on, Tamara and her bridal party transformed the stunning Maleny Manor into a kaleidoscope of vibrant flowers and tassels.“I gave Mondo Floral Designs some direction on the florals but they really ran with it and created something beyond even my wildest dreams. The headpieces were absolutely stunning,” says Tamara.“They even made a corsage to pin onto the dress I made for my chihuahua, Apples!”
When the big day arrived Tamara was surprisingly cool, calm and collected.“I thought I would be a bawling mess walking down the aisle but I was actually super calm and didn’t tear up at all,” she says.“Then I saw Tim waiting for me at the end of the aisle with tears in his eyes, which made me start to get emotional.”
Topping off the ceremony, a white barn owl surprised guests at the ceremony, delivering the rings to the alter… before relieving itself and causing a few hearty laughs. “When we got to the vows I really started to cry, which then set Tim off as well,” says Tamara. “In the moment I said, ‘Ha! Got you!’” After saying “I do” and wiping away a few happy tears, the couple joined their guests in a fun-filled reception, topped off with an indulgent Doughnut Time ‘wedding cake’.
