Rustic landscapes bathed in sunshine, breathtaking big-sky vistas, and utterly enchanting venues — there’s a lot to love about a Queensland country wedding. Lucky for us, our state is blessed with an array of truly beautiful country venues (some even close to Brisbane) that run the gamut from romantic chapels and beautiful barns to leafy rainforest hideaways. There’s even a castle or two tucked away!
Here’s our shortlist of charming country-style Queensland venues to inspire your wedding dreams. [Feature image: Aberfeldy Farm & Barn]
1. White Chapel Kalbar
Where: Kalbar, Scenic Rim Region
Distance from Brisbane: Just over 1 hour
We can’t get over the fairytale charm of White Chapel Kalbar. With all the beauty of a tiny country town setting, this timeless venue is actually only an hour’s drive south of Brisbane and is surrounded by magnificent mountain vistas.
After exchanging vows in White Chapel’s, well, old-world White Chapel, spoil guests with a dinner-party-style reception in the venue’s Black Hall. A converted Sunday School, the space is decked out with all the mod-cons and contemporary style – we love its dramatic black walls and barn doors. Cap it all off by sipping Champagne under the stars in White Chapel’s elegant lawns, by its rustic Barn Bar.
2. Sharla Park
Where: Moreton Bay
Distance from Brisbane: 1 hour, 20 minutes
Sharla Park is the newest place to open its doors in Moreton Bay, located only 10 minutes from North Lakes. Owners Kerri and Dave have lovingly shaped this 31-acre country-style venue into a stunning all-in-one space that offers a unique Australian natural bushland and wildlife setting. Picture acres of greenery and country silence, complimented by lakeside views and professional facilities. Say “I do” on the water’s edge, with breathtaking views of the lake and surrounding acreage, followed by pre-dinner drinks and canapes at the custom-built Silo Bar, then indulge in a romantic reception in the 21m x 10m marquee. Did we mention that the marquee walls open so you can enjoy the beautiful scenery and watch the horses at play? Country heaven!
3. Abbey Boutique Hotel
Where: Warwick, Southern Downs
Distance from Brisbane: 1 hour, 50 minutes
Want a country wedding venue that’s a little bit extra? Well, would a castle do? That’s right, your fairytale can unfold in the heritage-listed Abbey Boutique Hotel (circa 1891), an enchanting sandstone beauty in the country town of Warwick, just under two hours west of Brisbane.
Romantic, spectacular, and steeped in old-world charm, the Abbey offers the ultimate wedding experience — including fabulous accommodation in its individually styled rooms. Enjoy a magical elopement in the chapel or play Lord and Lady of the manor and treat your guests to an intimate bells-and-whistles reception, overnight accommodation, and breakfast! The Abbey can also host larger groups of up to 120 within its picturesque grounds. Bring your dreams of a horse-and-carriage arrival (don’t worry, they can arrange that too) to life right here.
4. Aberfeldy Farm & Barn
Where: Westbrook, (near Toowoomba) Darling Downs
Distance from Brisbane: 1 hour, 45 minutes
If a beautiful barn wedding is on your wish list, we have just the thing — and it’s only 15 minutes from the big country town of Toowoomba. With its gorgeous barn and 360° rural vistas, Aberfeldy Farm & Barn gives rustic luxe with a touch of Hamptons charm.
The barn itself was custom-built for events with a party-ready dance floor and stage as well as magical fairy lights en masse and a choice of delicious local catering options. You don’t have to reveal your reception space right away either. Guests can enjoy a memorable cocktail hour on the lovely lawns and gather around the separate bespoke bar while you and your love soak up that golden-hour light. If you’re chasing those big-sky vistas, you’ll have 50 acres to explore here! Time it right, and you may even catch the farm’s sunflower display. Just imagine the photos …
5. Pioneer Country
Where: Tweed Heads South
Distance from Brisbane: 1 hour, 52 minutes
Okay, so while not technically in QLD, it is located right on the state border, so we think it’s AOK to claim it! If you’re looking for a stunning and exclusive private country wedding venue close to the Gold Coast, then Pioneer Country might just be the perfect place for you!
Nestled on the Northern Rivers in Tweed Heads South and surrounded by 170 acres of rolling hills and farmland, Pioneer Country offers couples a picture-perfect backdrop for their big day amongst rolling hills, lush farmland and stunning ocean views. It’s got everything you need in one convenient location; picture a romantic plantation-style chapel and multiple outdoor ceremony locations, and a charming barn-style restaurant that seats up to 220 guests. A country venue with ocean views, now that is special!
